AQUA is pleased to share its contribution to the European Commission’s Call for Evidence on Water Sector – Accelerating Digitalisation for Better Management and Sustainability.
As the European association representing smart water meter manufacturers, we strongly support the EU’s ambition to accelerate the digital transformation of the water sector and contribute to the objectives of the Water Resilience Strategy.
In our response, we highlight three key conditions for a successful large-scale deployment of smart water metering across Europe:
Building on existing European and international standards to ensure interoperability. Creating long-term investment certainty through ambitious smart water meter rollout targets. Ensuring a harmonised implementation of the Drinking Water Directive across all Member States to reduce market fragmentation.Europe already has the technology, expertise and manufacturing capacity needed to support this transition. A coherent regulatory framework will enable the water sector to fully unlock the benefits of digitalisation, improving efficiency, resilience and sustainability for utilities and citizens alike.
